Price Fields

In Motive, we have a number of pricing fields. Below is an explanation of each:

MSRP:

  • Applies only to new vehicles.
  • Sourced from dealership's inventory system.

Compare-to-price:

  • Applies only to used vehicles.
  • This is typically useful for displaying a higher retail or market price compared to the display price. Many dealers use this to demonstrate actual or perceived savings.

Display Price

  • Also known as Final Price or Dealer Price
  • Applicable to both new and used vehicles.
  • This is the price customers pay.

Price Before Incentives:

  • Used to calculate discounts.
  • This is the price from which we subtract rebates or incentives.
  • Most commonly derived from 'Dealer Discount Price' in vAuto.
  • How It's used:
    • We derive the dealer discount amount by calculating the difference between MSRP and Price Before Incentives.
    • Then, we subtract any guaranteed rebates and custom discounts to determine the Display Price.

Changing Prices in Motive

What happens when I modify a price in Motive?

  • When you change a price in Motive and save, it updates instantly on your website.
  • Saving a price change in Motive locks the field to prevent updates from the inventory system.

How do I know if a price has been modified in Motive?

  • A blue ‘Sync’ icon appears in the price field if it's locked or changed in Motive.
  • To view all vehicles with changed information, click the ‘Changed’ tab next to the search bar.

How do I unlock/refresh prices in Motive after they have been modified?

  • Two methods:
    1. Click the blue sync icon and select 'Refresh'.
    2. Use checkboxes on the inventory table to select multiple vehicles, then choose ‘Refresh Prices’ from the bulk action menu.
  • Prices will revert to the values from your inventory system in the next import (occurs 12 times per day).

Custom Incentives

  • Custom Incentives allow you to add guaranteed incentives to your inventory in bulk. This can be applied based on collection or specific inventory filters.
    1. These are located under Inventory -> Incentives -> Custom Incentives
    2. Click "Add Incentive", you can then set the name as it will appear on the price box line item. You can also add a disclaimer which will appear in the tool tip.
    3. Enter the percent or dollar value and include an expiration date (if applicable).
    4. Select the inventory this will apply to - either a pre-made collection or set specific inventory filters (Make, model, trim, etc.)
